LONDON - A North Sea oil platform has been shut and all non-essential workers are being removed after a leak was discovered, the operator said Tuesday.
The Cormorant Alpha platform, owned and operated by Abu Dhabi National Energy Co.'s Taqa Bratani, has been shut along with all associated pipelines after "an indication of hydrocarbons was detected in one of the legs," according to a statement from the company.
The incident is being investigated but the hydrocarbons have been contained and no leak has occurred, according to the statement. All non-essential work has stopped and all 159 workers on board have been accounted for.
The Cormorant Alpha platform, located 232 miles offshore Peterhead and 94 miles from Lerwick, handles around 90,000 barrels a day of crude oil.
