As I have mentioned before, food courts in North America tend to be looked down upon - fast food stalls that offer up cheap food but also come at cheap value. ?Food courts in Asia are different - they are a viable and in some cases, desirable dining option. ?Aberdeen Mall has one of the most popular food courts in Richmond - all you have to do is try looking for parking around 7:00 pm and you'll see. ?It's bananas and not in a good way.
Leung Kee Cantonese Food is located right beside Mambo Cafe, another cafe I've reviewed before, and LKCF is pretty much their main competitor. ?Line ups at both places but LKFC has a more modern system, aka a tv that shows which orders are ready. ?But we're not here for the fancy system (ha!), we're here for the food. ?Show us your food!
Lemon Iced Tea with Honey - an extra $1.00 with your order
What's with the extra dollar for a cold drink??? ?Soup is free, hot tea is free but to add ice costs an extra buck? ?Whatever. ?At least the tea here is pretty darn good - a nice balance of sweet, lemony tartness and black tea. ?Even though it's ridiculous to have to pay extra, I'll always do it because I love this tea. ?Damn my lemon tea weakness!Singapore Fried Rice Vermicelli - $6.25
The portions are just as large as next door if not bigger. ?The curry is a bit light for my taste but there are a few of those burnt bits that I like. ?There's also plenty of shrimp, egg, BBQ pork, onions and mystery ham. ?For this price, this is pretty darn good.Salt and Hot Pepper Pork Chop on Fried Rice - $6.52
This was the specials board that for once was in English!!! ?YAY! ?That's already a pro for me. ?Weird price, no? ?The portion size of the pork chop is kind of disappointing - only 3 thin slices but I guess I get what I pay for. ?At least the pork is tasty - crispy, salty and a bit spicy but not enough spice in my opinion but that's just what I prefer. ?There's plenty of fried rice though and it tastes good and comes packed full of BBQ pork and shrimps. ?Not bad for under $10.00 people. ?Not bad at all.We both had enough for dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day and all for under $20.00. ?It's cheap and tastes pretty good. ?What more can you ask for? ?Bon appetite!
Pros:
- Cooked to order - it was a 20 min wait after ordering though but still, I'd rather my food be cooked to order than laying under a heat lamp
- Cheap prices
- Big portions
- Food and drink tastes pretty good
- Specials in English!
- Cash only
- A bit of wait time for food - usually a line up to order and definitely a waiting game for your food order to be called
- Free parking - the lot is a nightmare (just park further out to avoid the mess)
- No ambiance - you're in a food court!
